Veterinarian and OwnerHeather Shaffer is a native of Romney, West Virginia. After graduating from Hampshire High School in 1997. Heather received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Fairmont State College in 2001, attended West Virginia University, and obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee University in 2007. Heather now lives in Augusta with her husband and 4 children where she has a small farm with horses, cattle, and pigs. Heather has a Golden Retriever named Hudson and a Great Dane named Ally. She has several cats including Huckleberry, Blackie, and Mocha, as well as a Flemish Giant Cross rabbit named Carrot. Her hobbies include photography, horseback riding, coaching youth sports, and attending WVU sporting events. Heather’s special interests in the veterinary field include soft tissue surgery, dentistry, ultrasonography, and feline internal medicine. In addition, she enjoys taking care of small pocket pets. Heather wanted to be a veterinarian from the time she was 5 years old. She worked with Dr. Hott in 1996-97 as a high school student. Heather brings 14 years of experience to the practice and is very excited to work back in Hampshire County.

Amber Dow
Veterinary Receptionist
Amber Dow grew up is Wheeling, West Virginia. After obtaining her High school Diploma in 2001, she began taking nursing classes at West Virginia Community & Technical College. In 2003 she relocated to Augusta where she currently lives with her husband Jonathan, Son Ethan and Daughter Izabelle. Together they take care of their Three dogs, Ceaser, Flora, & Briar and Three cats Lurch, Alyssa and Sheila. With 17 years of reception work history, the clinic is the first in the medical field. With a love of science, medical knowledge and learning new things and of course all of the animals this is definitely a dream job. She enjoys spending time with family, reading and working with flowers.

Lainie Umstot

Lainie Umstot grew up in Augusta West Virginia and graduated from Hampshire High School in 2021. Lainie plays an active role in the community and is a vetted volunteer who has volunteered at multiple camps in the area. Lainie has graduated from Potomac State college and has a Associates degree in general studies and hopes to get into Penn Foster and get a degree in Veterinary Technology. She has been working in Veterinary Medicine for two years and enjoys working in this field. Lainie currently lives in Shanks WV on her farm with her boyfriend Brian and two dogs, Oakley, Dixie. She enjoys being in the outdoors, spending time with her family and her farm animals. Lainie had a strong interest in all animals but has a love for equine. She has eight horses of her own on her farm Lainie is thankful to have this opportunity to serve the community.

Trish is a proud resident of Hampshire county, living in Augusta on her farm with her Husband Roger, Son David and Daughter Elizabeth. Her oldest Daughter Brittany will soon make her a first time MiMi in August! Having a strong love for all animals she enjoys working at the Augusta Animal Hospital. When she can't be found at the clinic you can find her working hard on her farm or running her youngest Daughter to various sports. In addition to her already busy schedule she also coaches soccer, is very active in 4H as well as spending all of fair week helping in the barn. When she does have spare time she spends it camping at the river, or riding her horses.

Valerie Peer grew up in Berkley Springs, W.V. where she graduated in 2006. In 2022, she relocated to Augusta where she currently lives with her fiancé and eight children. Together they take care of their two dogs, two pigs, four ducks, two turkeys, and fifteen chickens although her favorite furbaby is her duck Fred. Valerie has been in health care since 2006 however with her love of animals made the switch to veterinary medicine and has fallen absolutely in love. She enjoys spending time with family, running and spending days outside working in the garden and with her animals.
